What is Wealthy Affiliate?

Wealthy Affiliate is a platform focused on one goal: to give you the knowledge and tools on how to make money online.

There is a main course that was created by the founders of Wealthy Affiliate. The course is structured very well and has a lot of valuable information. The best part is, that each chapter in the course has also some defined actions you should take. So, while going through the course you can put the things that you learn directly into action, which I missed the most when I searched for information on my own.

The main course is divided into 5 big parts:

   General knowledge you should have to build a successful online business and setting up your first website.
2. Getting Traffic
   Understand how you can organically get traffic from search engines and how to get ranked.

Getting Started

There are also loads and loads of training created by the community. You will basically find courses about any topic related to online marketing.

Hosting

Wealthy Affiliate is also a hosting platform. If you have a free membership, you can host your first website for free. If you decide to upgrade to premium, you can host up to 25 websites on a free domain and 25 websites on a domain you own.

Also, it is really easy to create a website (literally just a few clicks) and it will be automatically set up with WordPress.

Community

One of the biggest advantages is also the community. If you have a specific question and you are stuck, you can just write in the Wealthy Affiliate live chat and somebody will help you. The community is really supportive and you can interact with each other, share experiences, and motivate each other.

Basically, Wealthy Affiliate is a platform that gives you everything needed to start a successful online business. From the know-how to every single step, to the tools and the support from the community.

My story with Wealthy Affiliate

I joined the Wealthy Affiliate community back in 2015. I was always interested in ways how to make money online and already tried a lot of things, but the problem was that I didn’t know how to get started. Then I found someone promoting free advice by opting in to an email list. There I got some pointers for 15 days, and the guy that made this email list was also promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

So, I joined Wealthy Affiliate because it was for free and without entering your credit card details. To be fair, if you want to fully use Wealthy Affiliate, you gotta upgrade to premium. BUT for starting no penny is needed.

I learned a lot of things about Online Marketing

After going through the main course, I created my first website, which was a movie review site. I love movies and so I thought why not create a website about it. The site itself was a success to me because I got many reviews ranking on the first page of Google. Because of that I also got a lot of organic traffic over time. I learned skills like SEO, Social Media Marketing… The site sadly doesn’t exist anymore today because of reasons I will explain shortly. It was my little baby where I learned a lot of things and made a few bucks promoting products from Amazon.

Then I started doing a bunch of stuff at the same time. I created another site about online marketing, a bunch of Instagram pages, published some eBooks, designed t-shirts… you name it.
(don’t do that if you are serious about building a business, focus on one thing!)

At that time I had a full-time job as an ERP developer and invested about an hour a day and the weekends for my websites. I wrote a lot of content.

Becoming self-employed

After 1-2 years of being part of Wealthy Affiliate, I stopped the projects because a lot in my life was happening and I needed to focus on other things. One thing I did in 2017 was becoming self-employed, where I used all my learned skills from Wealthy Affiliate to help and consult other companies. I still worked more than 50% of my time for the previous company where I was employed.

Taking opportunities

I was self-employed for about one year and it was great. Very stressful and a lot of things to manage but again I learned a lot of things. After 1 year I got another opportunity at the company where I was employed before as an ERP Project Manager for a customer in Malaysia. I took the opportunity and started working full-time again. In that period I only focused on my full-time job.

Well, today I am still with that company because I like the job and I am good at it. Also, the people are great there and I have the opportunity to grow. Currently, I am Head of Service & Operations and I can help to improve the company.

How much money can i make with Wealthy Affiliate?

Well, I will give you the answer that you don’t want to hear: it depends. It depends on how much effort you are going to put in and many other factors. My experience with affiliate marketing is, that it takes time. And by it takes time, I mean you need to learn a lot of things and really find your niche.

Now a more specific answer. There are roughly 2 ways how you can make money with Wealthy Affiliate (which basically are the same).

1. Go through the course, find your niche and create a website and online business around that. There it’s hard to say how much you can earn, it totally depends on the products and commissions.
2. You do the same thing, but you start promoting Wealthy Affiliate. They have an Affiliate Program as well.
   

Let’s assume you are able to get 10 referrals a day with a conversion rate of 10% and they stay signed up for 3 months. That’s an average of $1,890 a month! Is it realistic that you will get there quickly? Honestly not. But it is realistic to get to those figures.

How long does it take to make money with Wealthy Affiliate?

Again, this depends a lot on how much effort you are going to put in and many other factors. But let’s assume you are starting out in affiliate marketing and you are building your site as a side project (10h/week). To make a very realistic assumption I would say it takes a year until you make some money (constant). Depending on your niche and your competence it might be quicker or if it is a hard niche also longer.

The cool thing is that after that one year and once you figure out how affiliate marketing works and what strategies you are best at: it will be much faster 😉

How to cancel Wealthy Affiliate

Should you for any reason have to cancel your subscription, this is how you do it (in the beginning stage I had to cancel sometimes, because I didn’t have enough money to pay… but I always came back).

Go to “Account settings”

Then on the left side to “Subscription”

And click on “Cancel billing”
