If you have your own blog or a website that is based around creating content you might ask yourself: how to come up with things to write about?

In this article, I am going to share my approach and try to give you a few tips, enjoy reading πŸ™‚

how to come up with things to write about for your website and not get stuck

General topic to write about

A good base is if you chose to create a website around a topic you are very interested in. If that is the case you will have a lot of things to say about that topic. For example, I constantly watch YouTube video or read articles or talk to others about online marketing, self-development, psychology and so on… and that’s what SiriousThoughts is about πŸ˜‰

psychology is interesting a great topic to write about

But okay, let’s say you chose a topic where you are new in the game. Same thing here: do your research! Watch videos, read articles or books, watch movies… whatever it is you prefer. But you need food for your brain to process so you can formulate an article about the topic that comes from you!

The same things goes for affiliate marketing sites about product reviews! Do your research, make yourself a clear picture of the product and give your 2 cents on it.

Write when you feel inspired

Every time I write an article I usually have loads of ideas that I could write about (more to that later) but I always go with a specific topic where I feel like I can easily write an article about it. If you start writing an article and the words don’t flow you probably didn’t do enough research or you didn’t make up your mind about that topic.

Make Up Your Mind

Go with the flow while writing, you can always improve your article afterwards. To me, it is, for example, important just to let my thoughts out in the order as they come out, so it really feels like you are listening to me talk.

So, how do you come up with things to write about?

Once you have a blog or website you will see that even during the day you sometimes get the thought: Oh, I could write about this. At least that happens to me. Most of the time you won’t be able to write an article at that moment, so write the idea down! Create a backlog of ideas you want to write about and whenever you can’t come up with one, look through the backlog. You probably already read this somewhere, but it works and to me, it is the only way. Are there any other ways you can come up with ideas to write about?

create a backlog of ideas, you will never run out

Google Trends

With Google Trends you can see what people are currently searching for the most. This is one of the places I sometimes go to, to get fresh ideas, but I have to say I rarely find a topic that interests me.

Keyword Research

This method is especially interesting if you are an affiliate marketer or if you generally care about SEO… and also if not it can be a great way to find things people are actually interested in.

Here an example of Jaaxy, where I searched for “self development”.

jaaxy self development page 2

So, people are interested in books about self development, self development programs, why it is important and so on. And you can keep going with this tactic. Let’s take the keyword “self development books” and search for further examples:

Now you already have great titles for your articles, like “Top 10 self development books”.

How to never run out of things to write about

So, create a backlog, do your research on Google Trends or with a Keyword tool and you will see, that you will get more ideas than you can even write about. I have to say I rarely take ideas out of the backlog because my mind is already trained to come up with a topic. But it still helps to write the ideas down, exactly for that reason. Your mind will be trained.

So, even if in the beginning it’s really hard to think of things to write about, don’t give up. Do more research. It gets easier.
